The fire broke out after a saloon car allegedly transporting fuel in several 5-litre containers hit a road bump and exploded into a ball of fire.

Two people sustained minor burns, and were rushed to local health centres for treatment. Passengers of the car managed to escape unscathed.

The value of property destroyed in the fire is yet to be established but said to run into millions.

As at 5pm, the inferno had been contained by efforts by County Government firefighters and area residents.

Contrary to online reports that the fire swept across residential areas in Pipeline, only business stalls were affected.

Police say investigations have been launched.
