Kenya Airways staff arrested with narcotics

Two Kenya Airways flight attendants and a driver were on Thursday arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in possession of undeclared items suspected to be narcotics.

The suspects, both men of Kenyan nationality were arrested fifteen minutes to take-off at 7.45 am with a substance believed to be cocaine while en-route to Cotonou, Benin. A driver who had colluded with the attendants to transport the substance was also arrested a few hours later.

Kenya Airways said they were aware of the incident and working closely with the relevant authorities to get to the bottom of the matter.

“Kenya Airways remains committed to the integrity of its operation and does not condone any illegal activities by its staff members,” read a statement from the management.

The company also condemned the incident saying they adhere to regulations and laws of Kenya and the countries it operates in.

Reports indicate that the 20-kilograms substance is estimated to be more than one hundred million shillings in value. Investigation to identify the narcotics are on the way at the airport.

Barely a fortnight has passed since another staff of Kenya Airways was arrested with 17 kilograms of heroine that was estimated to value more than 150 million shillings.
