Two killed, 11 injured after bus collides with lorry on Nairobi-Mombasa highway

Two people died while 11 others were injured on Sunday morning after a bus they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Lukenya area in Athi River on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

According to police, the driver of the lorry was overtaking other vehicles when he collided with the oncoming bus belonging to Mash Poa Company at around 1.30am.

“It happened that the Isuzu lorry registration Number KCG 048Y was being driven from Mombasa general direction heading towards Nairobi direction and on reaching at the location of the accident it overtook a fleet of motor vehicles and collided head on with motor vehicle KCJ 399A which was being driven on the opposite direction,” reads a report from Athi River Police Station.

The injured passengers are said to have sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Machakos Level Five Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased; a man and woman, were moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary.

The two vehicles were towed to the Athi River Police Station awaiting inspection and further action.
