Two killed, 11 injured in grisly accident on Embu-Meru highway

Two people died while 11 others sustained injuries following an accident on the Embu-Meru Highway on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred near Karwagi village in Gatunduri after an 11-seater matatu and lorry collided head on.

The Sacco Matatu was coming from Ishiara while the lorry was heading towards Runyenjes when they collided at around 8.30am.

The drivers of both vehicles died instantly.

Good samaritans had a hard time trying to rescue the injured as they were trapped inside the mangled wreckage.

Motorists who were passing by were flagged down to ferry the injured to various health facilities within Embu county.

The accident caused a huge traffic snarl up on the usually busy Embu -Meru Highway with police trying to intervene.

On November 8, three people were killed and seven seriously injured after a lorry hit a Nissan matatu at Wamumu on the Embu-Mwea Road.

The matatu was headed to Ngurubani from Makutano while the lorry was headed to Makutano when the accident occurred.
