Two killed, 26 injured after bus rolls in Taita Taveta

Two people died while over 26 others were injured on Sunday after a bus they were travelling in lost control and rolled several times at Josa area in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County.

Twenty-six passengers who were seriously injured were rushed to Moi Referral Hospital in Voi while 10 others were taken to Wesu Hospital in Wundanyi and Mwatate Sub-district hospital.

Mwatate Deputy County Commissioner Kenneth Murungi who was at the scene said the passengers were staffers from Kenya Ports Authority who had gone to Wundanyi Mghambonyi area to attend a burial of their colleague.

Mr. Murungi said the driver was not conversant with the road since road marks were visible at the scene of the accident.

Mwatate OCPD Francis Mwangi said an inspection of the bus would be conducted to establish the cause of the accident.

Eye witnesses called on the government to erect safety barriers, adding that many accidents occur at the area and nothing is done to protect motorists.
