Two killed after crossing into Tanzania to take illicit brew

Residents of Angata in Kilgoris, Trans Mara County are in mourning after two middle-aged men were hacked to death Tuesday night after they crossed the border into Tanzania to partake in illicit brews.

According to Kilgoris OCPD Alfred Muthua, bodies of the two, who were hacked to death in Mankucha, Tanzania by unknown assailants, had deep panga cuts on their heads, legs and stomach.

He added that investigations were immediately launched and a group of officers and area chiefs have crossed over to Tanzania to further probe the matter.

The bodies were reportedly taken to a morgue in Taribe, Tanzania.

The incident comes in the midst of a nationwide crackdown on illicit brew which was initiated after President Uhuru Kenyatta banned second-generation alcohol.

Since the crackdown begun, over 5 million litres of illicit brew have been poured.

Counties have also set up rehabilitation centres to help those leaving alcohol to kick the habit.
