Two killed as matatu crashes into lorry on Embu-Meru Highway

Two people were killed and 18 others injured when a matatu rammed into a stationary lorry at about 8:00pm in Kiangima area, along the Embu-Meru highway.

Confirming the incident, Embu North OCPD Mark Wanjala said that four passengers were seriously injured in the crash, noting that the matatu had ferried excess passengers.

“According to our tallying based on the number of patients in the hospital, the Nissan was carrying 20 passengers. We are yet to understand why they were overloaded at night taking passengers to Nairobi,” said Wanjala.

Eyewitnesses say that the lorry was parked in the middle of the road at the time of the accident, with some saying that the vehicle had a puncture.

The OCPD asked the motorists to exercise caution, especially when they experience car trouble.He said investigations have been launched into the incident.
