Two killed in Mt. Elgon attack

Residents of Mt. Elgon area in Bungoma County are now living in fear after a gang believed to be remnants of the outlawed Sabaot Land Defense Force killed two people and sexually assaulted a mother and her daughter.

The gang of four was reportedly armed with two AK 47 riffles and crude weapons which they used to terrorize residents at Kakateny market before making away with Ksh.10,000 and goods of an unknown value.

The assailants are reported to have stormed the home of a resident identified as Evans Wangaza where they killed a shamba boy, Jumba Wanyonyi after they missed the owner of the house.

As they were leaving Mr. Wangaza’s home, they shot a neighbor who was rushing to the aid of the attacked.

According to the residents, police were slow to answer their distress call, as they arrived hours after the gang had shot the two victims.

Confirming the incident, Cheptais Deputy County Commissioner Stephen Momanyi assured the residents that a manhunt had been launched to capture the culprits and urged the residents to volunteer information that could aid in investigations.

Residents condemned the killings, urging police to beef up security to deal with the regrouping gang.
