Two killed, several injured in Kibigori clashes

Two people have died and several others have sustained injuries in clashes that erupted in Kibigori, along the Kisumu-Nandi border.

The bloody skirmishes erupted in the wee hours of Saturday morning when raiders from Nandi County invaded the neighbouring community’s homes and escaped with an unknown number of cattle.

The raiders reportedly torched several homes, setting fire to many acres of sugarcane crop as the fighting spread to Chumasi area.

Several schools in the volatile area have been shut down and pupils were advised to stay home as the security forces try to quell the fighting.

According to the locals, several people are nursing serious injuries from the clashes and they are currently recuperating at hospitals in the region.

Speaking to Citzen Digital, Rev. Musa Osewe, who resides in the area, said that the situation is getting out of hand and authorities must act quickly to bring calm to Kibigori.

Tension is remains high in the region as youth, who have armed themselves with crude weapons, are patrolling their homes.

Efforts to reach authorities for comment, have so far been fruitless.

This comes less than two weeks after one person was killed and six others seriously injured following flare ups in the adjacent Miwani area.

These clashed forced police to reopen Miwani A.P. post at the border.
