Two Modern Coast buses detained after NTSA says suspension still on

Police have intercepted two Modern Coast buses at Sultan Hamud on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan said each bus had 45 passengers onboard.

”Necessary action will be taken,” he said citing the statement from National Transport and Safety Authority  (NTSA) that refuted reports of the suspension being lifted.

Modern Coast had posted a letter from NTSA dated December 17 that said 42 buses had been cleared to operate.

The NTSA letter listed registration numbers for the 42 buses.

“We are pleased to inform all our passengers that we have received permission from NTSA to resume normal scheduled bus services from 1.00 pm today the 17.12.2019,” Modern Coast company said.

That was at 10am on Tuesday.

However, three hours later, NTSA issued a contradicting statement saying: “This is to notify members of the public that the suspension of Modern Coast Express has not been lifted.”

Passengers who had boarded the Modern Coast buses on Tuesday bore the brunt of the confusion after police detained the vehicles.
