Two people isolated in Kirinyaga with coronavirus-like symptoms

Two people have been admitted at the Kerugoya Level Four Hospital isolation ward in Kirinyaga County with coronavirus-like symptoms.

Speaking on Thursday evening County Director of Health George Karoki said the two women are from Kirinyaga but one has been living in Rongai, Nairobi.

Karoti said blood samples have already been taken to KEMRI laboratories for testing:

“We are waiting for results, but right now the two patients have been quarantined in the hospital isolation ward,” He said

Kirinyaga county has donated 100 small water tanks at designated areas to help locals wash their hands frequently.

Additionally, mortuaries in the country will now only allow less than 10 people in accordance with the government directive on social distancing.

The new coronavirus has infected 227,000 people worldwide and killed 10,000.

In Kenya, which has seven confirmed cases, the government will start doing random screenings for the coronavirus, Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe said.

Kenyans are advised to maintain hygiene by washing their hands regularly with soap and water or alternatively, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
