Two perish in a grisly road accident in Muranga

Two people have been confirmed dead after the car they were driving in collided head on with a public service vehicle at Maragua in Murang’a county.

The two were in a group of five people in a private car and were headed to Murang’a from Nairobi.

Their driver reportedly tried to overtake on a hill but ended up colliding with a matatu which was heading towards Kenol.

“This is turning out to be a dangerous black spot and its only fair for motorists to be cautious to avert more deaths,” Murang’a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua said.

The occupants of the private car were heading to Nginda Girls for a weekend challenge.

The police commander on Saturday urged motorists to drive carefully at the area since lives had been lost at the scene.

On her part, Maragua Constituency MP Mary Waithira said she has approached the department of roads for expansion as a matter of urgency.

“The only solution of the road is for the expansion and an establishment of a climbing lane to avert more deaths,” she said.

Earlier in the year, an assistant chief and a child died on the spot after a matatu they were traveling in hit a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) bus from behind.

In 2009, a family of eight perished at the scene after their car collided with a mini-bus.
