Two police officers accused of killing suspect in custody remanded for 19 days

Two police officers accused of killing a suspect in while custody were on Friday remanded for 19 days pending plea taking.

The officers, Erick Odhiambo and Conelius Ndambuki, appeared before Machakos High Court Chief Magistrate Nelly Kenei.

The court ordered that the suspects be taken for a psychiatric test at the Machakos Level 5 Hospital to determine their suitability to stand trial.

They will then be remanded at the Machakos GK Prison until the date of the plea taking which was set for June 23, 2021.

Odhiambo and Ndambuki, who are attached to the KBC Police Station in Matungulu, are accused of killing Mark Lumbasi Natala who died at the station on March 9, 2021.

An inquiry was then opened into the incident and investigation commenced, which was later taken over by Machakos CCIO.

Upon completion, the CCIO forwarded the file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Machakos who then advised that the two officers be charged with the offence of murder.
