Two quarry workers buried alive in Kiambu

Two people were killed Monday evening after a quarry collapsed burying them alive in Kiambu’s Mwea village.

Mangu Deputy County Commissioner, Daniel Nyamiti, said the 35-year-old Paul Njuguna and his 32-year-old colleague, Samuel Mwaura, were working at Igadi Gware quarry when it collapsed at around 5:30PM.

Area Member of the County Assembly, Kimani Gachihi, who arrived at the scene after being notified on the incident, said that there were about ten miners in the quarry with seven of them having left by the time of the tragedy.

Gachihi noted that the third worker escaped death by a whisker as he took off after hearing a loud sound from the disintegrating quarry.

The two bodies were removed to Thika Level Four hospital mortuary.
