Two secondary schools de-registered in Govt crackdown

The Kisii County Education Board (CEB) has de-registered two private secondary schools for being in violation of the Education Act 2013.

Speaking to the media in Kisii town, the board chairman, Dr. Henry Onderi, indicated that Sebo and Utubora secondary schools in Sameta and Gucha sub counties respectively had been registered earlier but upon inspection it was discovered their status was wanting.

According to Dr. Onderi, the schools lacked qualified teachers, students’ data bank and registers as well as sub-standard education materials.

The chairman further pointed out that the schools enrolled candidates from other schools for the national examination, operated unauthorized boarding facilities and engaged in what the board termed as mediocre curriculum delivery.

The board has since petitioned the Kenya National Examination (KNEC) to de-activate them as this year’s KCSE centers.

The Board has further advised parents to liaise with sub county directors of education and KNEC to ascertain the fate of their candidates who are expected to sit for this year’s form four exam.

The revocation by the CEB brings to three, the number of schools banned for non-compliance with the Act this year.
