Two security guards grilled over attempted bank robbery in Ruiru

Police in Ruiru on Monday grilled two people over attempted an robbery at Co-operative Bank in Githurai area, Kiambu County on Sunday night.

The two, 32-year-old Richard Amboya and 30-year-old John Mukanya, are said to have been the security guards on duty at the time of the robbery.

Ruiru OCPD James Ng’etich confirmed the incident saying they are holding the two in a bid to pursue the ‘real culprits’.

Ng’etich said police acted immediately after receiving a tip off from members of the public who noticed unusual activities on a wall leading to the office of the bank manager.

“The unknown suspects were in the process of drilling a hole on the wall of the bank’s building when someone noticed the activities on the wall and alerted the manager who then called in the police,” said Ng’etich.

He added that the two are just security guards from one of the security company operating in the area who might help unravel persons behind the attempted robbery.

Ng’etich further confirmed that nothing was stolen from the bank saying further investigations are ongoing.
