Two shot dead, others injured after thugs attack World Cup fans

Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured after armed gangsters raided Ndindiruku shopping centre in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.

The three gunmen began by raiding a shop where they shot dead a woman and a middle-aged man who was helping her close the shop at around 8pm.

A confrontation is said to have ensued at the shop before the attackers shot the two and made away with an unknown amount of money.

The assailants then moved into a nearby entertainment joint and ordered all the revelers, who were watching a World Cup match, to lie down.

A barmaid and one other person were shot and injured before the gunmen fled as they fired more rounds into the air to cause tension.

Mwea East OCPD Dorothy Gaitenga said police had launched investigations into the incident.

Led by Tebere MCA Gudson Muchina and Thiba MCA Pius Njogu the local residents urged police to increase patrols in the area which has become a gangsters paradise.

They said similar robbery incidents had in the recent past been witnessed at Mururi, Kutus, Thiba and Ngurubani areas with no arrests being made.
