Two suspected carjackers were shot dead on Tuesday by police in Nakuru County while allegedly on a mission to rob a lorry on the Gilgil–Nakuru Highway.

Nakuru County Police Commander Hassan Rashid Barua said the two suspects were in gang of six robbers but four of them managed to escape.

According to the police commander, preliminary reports indicate that the six had carjacked the lorry and were intercepted at section 58 by police acting on a tip off from members of the public.

The police boss said security officers recovered an AK47 rifle from the suspects, adding that a manhunt was underway for the four suspects who fled.

He also noted that the suspects are part of a gang that has been carjacking long distance trucks along the highway.

The bodies of the two felled suspects were moved to Nakuru County Hospital Mortuary.
