Two suspects captured on CCTV robbing shot dead in Meru
Two robbery with violence suspects were gunned down on Sunday night in a shoot out with police in Meru.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two suspects have previously been captured on CCTV footages numerous times in active violent robberies within Meru County.
This led to the launch of a special operation by a multi-agency security team to bring down the criminals.
On Sunday night, the armed suspects who were riding on motorbike were ambushed by police in Makutano area where a gunfire exchange ensued after they declined orders to surrender.
“The confrontation ensued after the team spotted a suspicious motorcycle with concealed number plates at Makutano area in Meru, where on challenging the rider to stop the two pillion passengers alighted and opened fire with a patchett submachine gun, disobeying orders to surrender,” said the DCI.
“The detectives fired back in retaliation, where the two suspected ex-Kamiti Maximum Prison convicts were fatally injured with the rider escaping but is being pursued.”
Meanwhile, the DCI has reiterated it will continue with the pursuit for guns and ammunitions being possessed by wrong hands without excuse of official and procedural licensing.
