Two suspects shot dead in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa County on Sunday gunned down two suspects linked to the murder of a Barsheba Village elder in Kisauni area.

The elder, Mohammed Athman, was murdered on Thursday evening as he was heading home from evening prayers.

Mombasa police boss Johnstone Ipara said the felled gangsters were in a group of five suspects cornered by officers at Kongowea area while reportedly engaging in another criminal activity.

Speaking to journalists at Dog section police station in Kisauni sub-county on Sunday evening, Ipara said the suspects are linked to the murder of Mr. Athman.

He added that the suspects were also armed with machetes and knives, further warning that those selling such items to criminal gangs would be arrested.

A section of Mombasa Nyumba Kumi peace committee members condemned the killing of their colleague and accused human rights activists of shielding criminals.

Haki Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid however dismissed the claims insisting the law should be followed when pursuing suspects.
