Two U.S. women get over a decade each in jail for financing Al Shabaab

Two American women have each been sentenced to more than ten years in prison for conspiring to provide financial support to Somali militant group Al Shabaab operatives in Kenya and Somalia.

According to a U.S. Justice Department statement, Muna Osman Jama, 36, of Reston Virginia was jailed for 12 years and Hinda Osman Dhirane, 46, of Kent, Washington DC was jailed for 11 years.

Both women were found guilty after a trial before U.S. District Judge, Anthony Trenga, on October 25 last year and were convicted of sending money to financiers linked to Al Shabaab in Somalia and Kenya.

They reportedly formed “Group of Fifteen,” online bringing together women from Somalia, Kenya, Egypt, Netherlands, Sweden, UK, Canada and U.S. to support Al Shabaab operations in Golis Mountains and two safe houses in Nairobi.
