Two vehicles nabbed transporting charcoal from Kitui County

Two vehicles ferrying charcoal from Kitui County towards Nairobi were nabbed early Sunday.

One of the vehicles was nabbed in Ngutani barrier while the other was intercepted in Mwingi town.

The operation was led by Kitui Deputy Governor Dr. Gideon Nzau Wathe who reiterated that the ban on charcoal trading in the county was still in force.

“Today we intercepted two vehicles ferrying charcoal. As Kitui County, we have put a stop to the charcoal business,” said Dr. Nzau.

The deputy governor noted that charcoal dealers, who were previously using lorries, have now resorted to using personal vehicles such as Probox, Noah, and even Prados to avoid being easily spotted

“One of the vehicles we intercepted today was a Prado, it was stuffed with charcoal. We want to give a warning to any drivers ferrying charcoal to stop, and we have instructed the security at all our barriers to conduct inspections n all vehicles,” said Dr. Nzau.
