Two women were on Wednesday, January 26 arrested in Ngurubani area, Kirinyaga County for allegedly killing a seven-month-old baby and dumping her in a pit latrine.

According to area residents, the crying child was discovered by a lady who wanted to use the 20-feet facility.

Confirming the incidence, Mwea East OCPD, Kizito Mutoro, said that efforts by police to rescue the child were unsuccessful as she was pronounced dead on arrival to hospital.

“We rescued the child from the pit latrine while still alive, but died shortly,” he said.

The OCPD discouraged women from committing such vices saying that it is criminal and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“It is better to bring such children to Family Homes instead of trying to kill them.”

The two are currently being detained at Wang’uru Police Station.
