Two women suspected of theft rescued from angry mob

Two women accused of conspiring to rob a businessman are being held at Embu Police Station after police rescued them from an angry mob Monday evening.

The two, identified as Wincate Mukami, 24, and Faith Wangui, 26, are accused of trying to steal Ksh 17,000 from a businessman at the Embu – Kiritiri matatu terminus in Embu town.

The angry mob, which was responding to an alarm by the businessman, descended on the two roughing them up and stripping them and were about to set them of fire when police officers arrived.

Mukami and Wangui are accused of masquerading as mobile phones SIM card retailers who move from one point to the other only to rob unsuspecting persons.

Embu Deputy Police boss, Ziro Arome, said the two women have been stealing from residents with their prime targets being business people.

Arome, however, urged members of public to stop engaging in mob justice and report the matters to police for action.
