U.S. Secretary of State Tillerson to jet in on Friday

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will be in the country from March 9-12 on his first trip to Africa as the top U.S. diplomat.

According to the U.S. State Department, Secretary Tillerson will meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta and other government officials in talks set to focus on continued support for the democratic process in Kenya, refugee issues, and press freedom.

Tillerson’s Africa visit includes Chad, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Nigeria.

During his trip, Tillerson plans to discuss ways to counter terrorism, advance peace and security, promote good governance, and spur mutually beneficial trade and investment.

His itinerary includes a meeting with the leadership of the African Union Commission, which is based in Addis Ababa.
