Tillerson cuts short Africa trip to return to Washington

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has cut short his first trip to Africa to return to Washington about one day ahead of schedule to deal with urgent work there.

This follows his three-day Kenya tour where he canceled events he was scheduled to undertake in Nairobi on Saturday.

A spokesman of the State Department told Reuters that he was not feeling well.

“The secretary is not feeling well after a long couple days working on major issues back home such as North Korea and has canceled his events for the day,” spokesman Steve Goldstein said.

Tillerson, who arrived in the country on Friday, March 9 was set to visit the site of the 1998 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.

He was set to visit the site of the 1998 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi together with a tour of Nairobi’s Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

He ended up just meeting with government officials and left Kenya for Chad on Monday morning.

His travel plans however changed so that he can return to Washington early on Tuesday morning instead of late that night, a spokesman for the top U.S. diplomat told reporters travelling with him.
