Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya involved in road accident

Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya Phibby Otaala was on Wednesday morning involved in a road accident at Kimwanga area on the Eldoret-Malaba highway.

The accident reportedly occurred when one of the tyres of her vehicle burst forcing the driver to swerve, thereby landing on a ditch.

Ms. Otala, who was on her way to Kisumu from Uganda, was in the vehicle with her driver, security and house girl at the time of the crash.

She sustained a broken leg while the other three occupants escaped with minor bruises.

According to Ramadhan Juma, the commissioner’s driver, the rear right tyre burst and as he tried to control the vehicle he saw two bodaboda riders ahead and lost control while trying to avoid hitting them.

Confirming the incident, Bungoma County Commissioner Stephen Kihara said the four were rushed to the nearby Life Care Hospital for medical attention.

An official at the hospital further told Citizen Digital  that first aid has since been conducted on the High Commissioner and she is currently stabilizing awaiting to be transferred to Nairobi for monitoring.
