Ugandan maid accused of killing 3month-old baby arraigned

A Ugandan maid who allegedly butchered her employer and her three-month-old son in Muhoroni Sub County in June this year has been arraigned.

Jacky Auma, who appeared before Kisumu High Court Judge Fred Ochieng, failed to take plea since she had not undergone a psychiatrist test as required by law for murder suspects.

State Prosecutor Gloria Baraza told the court that the physician who was supposed to carry out the mental test on the accused was away on official duties.

Baraza said  the accused has now been booked for a mental check up at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Jackline Auma is now set to take a plea on October 2 this year.

Justice Ochieng further directed that the High Court deputy registrar avail a lawyer for the suspect.

The accused has been in remand at Kodiaga Women Prison from September 17, 2018 after she was brought to Kenya by Ugandan authorities to undergo psychiatric tests before facing murder charges.

She is accused of stabbing Elizabeth Achieng’ to death and strangling her son in Shauri Yako estate in Muhoroni after which she fled to Uganda.
