Ugandan MPs arrested as citizens claim Museveni convoy wasnt vandalised

Three Ugandan lawmakers and some of their supporters were arrested after claims that stones were thrown at the Museveni convoy.

This comes even as the Daily Monitor, a Ugandan newspaper, reported that citizens took to social media to rubbish the claims.

“Maybe it is made by Chinese. People have been told lies for so long. How can a mere stone break the windscreen of a bullet proof vehicle?” posed Deus Turyamureeba on Facebook.

Emirian Kayima, the police spokesman had told a news conference that supporters of independent candidate Kasiano Wadri had obstructed and attacked Museveni’s convoy in Arua.

Apparently one of the vehicles in the Museveni convoy had its rear windscreen shattered.

“It is criminal to obstruct and attack the presidential motorcade,” he said.

However, one Solome Nakaweesi-Kayondo wondered:

“Silence is sometimes golden (especially in such a situation where emotions are high). Now your pictures have opened more questions.

“Eeeeeh all along we thought this car was bullet proof??? So how come a bullet proof armoured presidential car be smashed by stones?? Something doesn’t add up. And so, are now justifying someone being deprived of the right to life with these pictures?”
