Ugandans living in Kenya celebrate Independence Day

Ugandans in Kenya joined hands on Saturday to celebrate 53 years of Uganda’s independence.

The event, held at Kilimani Primary School, was graced by influential Ugandan politicians and personalities including Uganda EAC Minister Shama Bagobaine and Uganda High Commissioner to Kenya Angeline Wapakabulo.

The celebration involved exhibitions of a wide array of Ugandan products in Kenya, cultural dances, children’s activities and speeches from dignitaries who attended the function.

Shama Bagobaine, in his speech, highlighted the plans laid down by the Ugandan Government for the Ugandans leaving in Diaspora including; dual citizenship and registration, and getting ID’s for the unregistered members.

“Those who have not registered as Ugandan Citizens, when you visit ensure you get an ID, we now allow dual citizenship,” he said.

The government is also working on foundations to ensure Ugandans who have studied in Kenya, and especially lawyers, are able to practice their skills.

The event was crowned with two major activities, cake cutting and a whole night of dancing and celebrations.

The Ugandan government appreciates all Diaspora Ugandans for their contributions to the development of their country. It also appreciated the Kenyan government and citizens for their hospitality and cordial relationship.
