Ugunja MP threatens to sue Speaker Muturi over Parliament sessions
Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi has threatened to sue National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi for contempt of court.
Wandanyi, through lawyer Anthony Aluoch, told High Court Judge Joseph Onguto that Muturi has declined to obey orders by High Court judge George Odunga that suspended National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi’s directive to bar him from attending Parliament sessions till the end of his term.
Odunga in his ruling said that the decision by Muturi was denying the right of the people of Ugunja representation in Parliament.
Muturi had suspended the legislator from the House for the remaining period of the term and denied him access to Parliament buildings after he (Wandayi) led opposition lawmakers in booing President Uhuru Kenyatta during his State of the Nation Address on March 31st, 2016.
“When one organ of the state violates the constitution, the court will not remain silent,” said Justice Odunga.
The case will be mentioned on July 15th.
