Uhuru avoids police salaries dispute as 3000 recruits graduate

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday steered clear of the police salaries issue even as he oversaw the graduation of over 3000 graduates.
In his speech, the president touched on issues to do with better housing and equipment but did not mention the ongoing debate over reduction of police pay.
On his part, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the 3,969 graduates from Kiganjo Training College will now join the police force after completing their tutelage under a revised police curriculum.
He said the syllabus was changed to make it more relevant to emerging security issues such as religious extremism.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett added that the same curriculum is in use across the three colleges under the national police with few modifications to conform with their general duties.
This he said, will enable the carrying out of multi agency security operations with ease.
The new police officers are expected to be deployed to different parts of the country.
