Uhuru calls for strengthening of devolution at governor’s summit

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged governors to strengthen devolution in the next five years in order to better the lives of Kenyans.

Speaking in Kwale County during the launch of the governors conference at Diani Reef Hotel, the president stressed that it is important that county governments adapts resource allocation formula so that Kenyans can benefit from the government.

“I am willing and looking forward to work with you individually and collectively regardless of your political affiliation, mine is to ensure we deliver services to our people, ensure we transform the lives of Kenyans wherever they may be,” he said.

Mr. Kenyatta also called on the county governments to include the private sector in the development agenda as they seek to transform service delivery.

At the same time, President Kenyatta urged the county bosses to work together with the central government in order to achieve the goals of devolution.

Also present was former Ghanaian President John Mahama who called for equality and equity in the devolved units.

Council of Governors Chairman Josphat Nanok called for concerted efforts in order to keep the spirit of devolution alive.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, has been endorsed by the Jubilee Party to take over from Nanok as chairman.

The theme for the governor’s conference is “Better governance and accountability for ultimate devolution dividends to all Kenyans.”
