Uhuru calls on African Ambassadors to promote continent globally

President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on African ambassadors accredited to Germany to leverage their collective authority to advance the interests of Africa within the world’s bastions of power.

Speaking in Berlin where he is on a two-day state visit, the President urged the ambassadors to spread the spirit of Pan-Africanism and unity among Africans across the world.

While in Germany, he will explore ways of deepening the existing bilateral relations in key areas of trade and investment, tourism, education, culture and security.

He maintained that Africa rests at the centre of global focus and that the ambassadors were strategically positioned to champion the African agenda and that it needs a concerted effort from them to forge a stronger future for the continent.

Uhuru acknowledged that despite a few set of pervasive problems, the continent is raising in all sectors.

“There is a growing consciousness of the need for cohesion and the threshold of tolerance with divisive politics and poor governance becoming lower and lower.”

He emphasized that combating terrorism was a joint African struggle, acknowledging the presence of extremists in countries like Nigeria and Mali, as well as Kenya.

He said Kenya has been at the forefront of regional peace initiatives, contributing to peace efforts in Somalia, but the process must be accelerated for the sake of regional stability.

“AMISOM must be reinvigorated, and the calls of the African Union for the UN to support AMISOM at all levels, must be seriously considered.”

He, however, called on African leaders to invest heavily in ensuring the prevalence of peace among Africans

Kenya and Germany remain traditional trading partners since Kenya’s independence with Kenya being a popular destination for German tourists and Germany being one of the country’s most important export destinations.
