Uhuru compensates Gusii IDPs during vote hunt

President Uhuru Kenyatta has compensated victims of the 2007/2008 post-election violence in Kisii during his visit to the region.

About 7,000 people have benefited from the scheme after the Head of State issued a cheque worth Ksh 358 million at Masimba Secondary School playground with a promise of another Ksh 460 million to be issued out to Nyamira County IDPs on Wednesday to help them resettle fully after their lives were distabilised by the violence that followed the December 2007 presidential polls.

This comes after a special committee working hand-in-hand with the Office of the President recommended payout to 7,000 Kenyans who preferred to reside in Kisii as opposed to staying in camps.

“This has been a thorny issue among the Gusii community. We promised to deal with the issue and never again will Kenya face such a mess again,” President Kenyatta said.
