Uhuru declares National Prayer Day

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday declared Sunday, October 22, 2017 as the National Prayer Day citing a difficult following the nullification of the August 8th presidential election.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi after a meeting with religious leaders, the head of state further called for an extended period of prayer and reconciliation starting this weekend ahead of the October 26th repeat poll.

“After consultations with religious leaders, I have reached this decision to call on all Kenyans to pray for their country which will culminate to a National Day of Prayer this Sunday,” said Mr. Kenyatta.

This came hours after IEBC commissioner Dr. Roselyne Akombe resigned from the body saying the commission “in its current state can surely not guarantee a credible election on 26 October, 2017.”

In his address, the president asked Kenyans to pray for each other and forgive one another saying that God has lifted this country before.

“Let us pray for all our leaders across the political divide. That they be granted wisdom, humility and that they may love peace and justice,” he said.

“The truth is that the politics of the day are fleeting but this nation under God’s care will endure,” Kenyatta added.
