Uhuru ‘disowns’ Peter Kenneth in Nairobi governor race

President Uhuru Kenyatta has once again disowned Independent candidate for Nairobi governor seat, Peter Kenneth, saying he is a spoiler in the contest.

The President has instead drummed up support for Nairobi Senator, Mike Sonko, and his running mate Polycarp Igathe saying the Jubilee team is suitable to replace Nairobi Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero.

Speaking during his Jubilee campaign tour in Nairobi, on Friday, July 21, the President urged residents to embrace six piece voting system and vote for Jubilee candidates in the August polls.

“We want someone who understands the problems affecting Nairobi residents. I am saddened by the current Nairobi County Government which has failed to deliver on the needs of city residents. Hawkers are also crying everyday of mistreatment by city askaris,” said the President.

Addressing Embakasi East residents at the Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi, the Head of State appealed to Nairobi gubernatorial Kenneth to shelve his ambition and support Jubilee Party in the August 8 polls to ensure victory.

Earlier, President Kenyatta toured Kawangware area and appealed to residents to vote for his re-election, lashing at Governor Kidero for letting down city residents.

In the latest opinion poll released by TIFA research, Sonko and Kidero are now neck-and-neck with each having a 44% popularity rate in the Nairobi Governor seat race.

Kenneth trailed with 4% while 7% of Nairobi voters are still undecided on their choice in the governor’s race.
