Uhuru & Gideon Moi in new party deal as Murkomen, Kihika face the axe

It is a defining moment for the Jubilee Party Senate leadership on Monday with President Uhuru Kenyatta summoning senators to a parliamentary group meeting at State House.

The president has invoked his powers as the Jubilee Party leader that allows him to  summon a meeting of any organ of the party at any time

Insiders claim the President is keen on cracking the whip on those perceived to be rebels within the party ranks in the senate.

Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Senate Majority whip Susan Kihika are likely to be casualties of the president’s wrath.

The duo has been accused of sabotaging the president’s agenda in what insiders call gross insubordination.

Murkomen and Kihika are well-known Deputy President William Ruto’s fiercest supporters both in and outside the house

The meeting comes against the backdrop of a coalition deal inked and deposited at the office of the Registrar of Political Parties between the Jubilee Party and KANU.

This will allow KANU to sit in House committees and attend Jubilee’s parliamentary group meetings.

As it stands, the likely candidates to replace Murkomen for the position majority leader in the Senate include Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is KANU chairman.

Another choice is West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio also of KANU.

The duo boasts vast experience with Poghisio having served in government previously and is capable of commanding respect from both sides of the house including the opposition to further the government agenda

For the position of majority whip in the Senate, those likely to replace Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika include Nairobi Senator Johnstone Sakaja and Uasin Gishu Kanu Senator Professor Margaret Kamar.

The Jubilee party constitution lays ground for disciplinary action against a member for gross misconduct, corruption, disloyalty to the party, advancing positions in contrary to the party position, failure, refusal or neglect to carry out directives or instructions of the party, lack of respect to the decisions of the party and the organs of the party and any other act or omission that may bring the party into disrepute.

These charges maybe leveled or cited in axing of Murkomen and Kihika for advancing what the president’s men feel is DP’s agenda rather than the president’s agenda

The president’s inner circle is claiming President Uhuru is gradually taking charge of his teams in the house and firming up the numbers with his political friends.

The process was set off by the changes at the party’s powerful National Management Committee (NMC) that was protested by Deputy President William Ruto himself.

Ruto led the onslaught only for it to come a cropper with the Party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju forcing the changes through.

In Monday’s meeting should Murkomen and Kihika be dropped, the president’s focus will be targeted at reorganizing parliamentary committees both at the National assembly and the Senate with those perceived as Ruto allies and dissidents being shown the door.

It is checkmate as the DP and the President shadow boxing now goes full-blown.
