Uhuru handshake was a painful decision, says Raila

Opposition chief Raila Odinga now says his reconciliation with President Uhuru Kenyatta was not an easy task but was a worthy decision for millions of Kenyans.

Mr. Odinga, who was speaking during the burial ceremony of Professor Oeri Tumbo in Kisii observed that the country is deeply divided hence his decision to engage with President Kenyatta in a bid to salvage the current situation.

“It was not easy for me to sit with Uhuru Kenyatta and sign that MOU, it was not easy. It was a very painful decision,” he said.

The political heavyweight further indicated that he was ready to work with the Jubilee administration for the sake of thousands of Kenyans who died in election-related violence for many years.

Speaking after the burial in Ahero, the leader promised Kisumu residents that on his next visit, he would take President Uhuru Kenyatta with him.

President Kenyatta and Mr. Odinga shocked the nation when they met and decided to put aside their differences and work to end the political acrimony that’s divided the country along ethnic, religious and political lines.

“We refuse to allow our diversity to kill our nation, we refuse to be the leaders under whose watch Kenyans lead into a failed nation,” said Mr. Odinga after the meeting.
