Uhuru holds meeting with European CouncilPresident Charles Michel

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday at State House, Nairobi, held a meeting with President of the European Council Charles Michel who paid him a courtesy call.

President Kenyatta and the visiting European Union leader discussed matters of both bilateral and multilateral interest to Kenya and the EU.

The two, according to a statement to newsrooms from State House Spokesperson

Kanze Dena Mararo, agreed strengthen and scale up partnership between Africa, and Kenya’s private sector and the European Union as part of efforts to increase investments, create employment and support post COVID-19 economic recovery.

They also agreed to upgrade Kenya’s bilateral relations with the European Union to a strategic dialogue as well as foster a closer working relationship between Kenya and the European Union on regional matters.

President Kenyatta and his EU counterpart further agreed to accelerate the implementation of the existing Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) following the historic agreement at the EAC summit last week.

President Michel was accompanied to the meeting by Amb. Simon Mordue, European Union envoy to Kenya, while President Kenyatta was joined by Cabinet Secretaries Raychelle Omamo (Foreign Affairs) and Adan Mohamed (East African Community).

Also present were Head of Public Service Dr Joseph Kinyua and State House Deputy Chief of Staff incharge of Strategy Mrs Ruth Kagia.
