President Kenyatta, Ruto congratulate Raila Odinga on new AU role
President Uhuru Kenyatta has lauded the appointment of ODM party leader Raila Odinga to the Africa Union.
In a statement to newsrooms, President Kenyatta said the appointment is not only a great honour to Raila but also to the people and the Republic of Kenya.
“Raila Odinga has over the years been at the forefront in the development of modern infrastructure as an economic enabler and as an instrument for regional and international integration.

On his part, Deputy President William Ruto said the role is key to developing linkages across the continent, boosting intra-Africa trade and integration.
He further noted that the country salutes Uhuru-Raila unity pact as it would bring an end politics of division, ethnicity and unite all Kenyans.
“We are all playing our role in building bridges of friendship, brotherhood, oneness and ensuring achievement of Big Four to cement President’s legacy,” DP Ruto said.

President Kenyatta attributed several key infrastructure projects in Nairobi and other major towns across the country to Raila Odinga.
He also thanked the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, for appointing Raila Odinga to the new AU position.
“It is befitting that the appointment has been announced on Mashujaa Day, an auspicious day when as a country, we are united in celebrating the outstanding men and women whose selfless service has contributed to the shaping of the Kenyan nation,” his statement reads.
