Uhuru, Kibaki mourn former President Mois son Jonathan

President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Head of State Mwai Kibaki have sent a message of condolence to the family of the late Jonathan Moi.

A statement from State House said President Kenyatta received the news with shock and disbelief and expressed solidarity with former Head of State Daniel arap Moi.

“Your Excellency, our collective thoughts and prayers as a family and as a country are with you, your family and friends during this difficult period of mourning. May the Almighty God rest the soul of our brother and friend Jonathan Toroitich Moi in eternal peace,” President Kenyatta said

He described the late Jonathan Moi, popularly known as JT, as humble, kind, generous and courageous. “JT’s word was always his bond, he was dependable,” President Kenyatta added.

On his part, former President Mwai Kibaki said he was saddened by the death of Jonathan:

“A self-effacing and private person, Jonathan will be remembered for his breakthroughs in motor sporting, farming and business,” Mr. Kibaki said in a statement.

Other leaders who sent their messages of condolence include Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka as well as Governors Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru) and Stanley Kiptis (Baringo).

Mr. Lusaka said the entire Moi family is in his thoughts and prayers as they bear the loss.

Governors Kinyanjui and Kiptis echoed the Senate Speaker’s sentiments saying Jonathan Moi would be remembered as a great sportsman, one of Kenya’s leading rally drivers.
