Uhuru launches Machakos Athi River dual carriageway construction
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, October 20 launched the construction of a dual carriageway from Machakos Junction to Athi River.
President Kenyatta, during a stopover at Athi River, told the residents that the Machakos dual carriageway project will cost the country Ksh 5.3 billion and will ease congestion along the busy Nairobi – Mombasa Highway.
President Kenyatta said when the project takes off, it will provide employment opportunities for youth in Machakos County.
The 20 kilometer stretch is part of the list of major infrastructural projects that are currently ongoing.
President Kenyatta also unveiled the Late Paul Ngei’s statue at the Machakos Junction before proceeding to Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos town to lead Kenyans in celebrating the 7th Mashujaa Day.
