Uhuru, Mudavadi urge Kenyans to get COVID-19 vaccine

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to take advantage of the ongoing inoculation exercise and take the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Head of State called on Kenyans to stay safe and observe COVID-19 protocols.

“With the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine and the commencement of our vaccination campaign, we are inching closer to victory. Our morning is on the horizon, and together we can reach it,” he said in a statement.

In his Easter message, the President said Kenyans should emulate the loving heart, compassion and deep sense of duty that Jesus Christ gave the world.

He termed the setbacks brought by the pandemic as only temporary adding that though marked in a muted manner, Easter heralds a new dawn.

On his part, ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi also urged Kenyans to take the jab even as they adhere to the Ministry of Health protocols.

He however called on the Ministry of Health to come clean on the emerging controversy around the Sputnik V vaccines.

Echoing the sentiments of Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, the ANC leader said that information regarding the importation of the Sputnik V vaccine should be made public.

He added that the government should reinforce incentives to cushion Kenyans besides revisiting the VAT on essential foodstuff.

Even as the country enters the Easter weekend, five counties — Nairobi, Nakuru, Kajiado, Kiambu and Machakos — remain under lockdown as one zone.

ODM leader Raila Odinga said he is praying for peace and urged Kenyans to keep the faith.

“Even in these difficult times, let’s retain the faith that the God of wonders who ensured our Lord Jesus triumphed over crucifixion and death on this weekend more than 2000 years ago is still with us, He still performs miracles and triumphs over evil. We shall overcome,” he said on Friday.

Meanwhile DP William Ruto has exuded confidence that the country will beat the coronavirus pandemic. He said Easter has come at a time when Kenyans are reckoning with pain and suffering as well as hope and renewal.

“Once again Easter season has come at a time when the world continues to endure pain and suffering of a pandemic that still stalks the land,” he said.

According to him, the promise of Easter is that the pain and burden will come to pass and the world will once again ’emerge victorious through the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ ‘.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka sent a message of hope, happiness, prosperity and abundance to all Kenyans.

“May this Easter season inspire you to new hope, happiness, prosperity, and abundance, all received through God’s divine grace,” he said.
