Uhuru: No room for theft and wastage in gov’t

President Uhuru Kenyatta has told accounting officers in government that there was no room for pilferage and waste in his administration saying those who will be found guilty will pay dearly.

Accounting officers in government include; Principal Secretaries who head state departments, vice chancellors of public universities and CEOs, managing directors and directors of parastatals.

“We want to categorically and clearly state that funny practices that lead to loss or wastage of public resources will not be allowed,” the president told the officers during a meeting at State House on Wednesday.

“We will not entertain anybody messing up with government resources,” said the president.

President Kenyatta repeated the uncompromisingly candid message he delivered to Cabinet Secretaries: any accounting officer who deemed their burden too heavy was free to depart from government.

Prudent use of public funds is a key plank in delivering the president’s Big Four plan that targets providing more roofs over the heads of Kenyans, ensuring more jobs by enhanced manufacturing, making sure hunger and starvation are stories confined to history, and ensuring everyone has access to healthcare.
