Uhuru presides over Kibabiis first graduation ceremony

President Uhuru Kenyatta presided over Kibabii University’s first graduation ceremony in Bungoma County where 742 graduates were conferred with degrees on Thursday, November 24, 2016.

President Kenyatta, who is also the Chancellor of the university, was accompanied by Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i.

He announced an allocation of Ksh 300 million to improve the university’s facilities. Kibabii University became a fully fledged university after the President awarded it a charter in 2013.

“This is a great milestone for the university as well as the graduates. This university has achieved tremendous growth in the last five years,” said the President.

The President also urged universities to ensure they protect the integrity of exams stating the era of missing examination marks or proceeding to the next academic year before students know how they performed was long gone.

He called on local leaders and business men to partner with the university to build more hostels for the students.

He warned universities against issuing degrees for money threatening to deal with them harshly.

CS Matiang’i lauded the university saying it had made great progress since it was awarded the charter.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Odero, said the university had achieved momentous growth and currently boasted a staggering 6,500 students enrolled in four different faculties.

The Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Shem Migot Adhola, said the university plans to boost its credentials by undertaking more researches starting with joint collaborations with national and international research organisations.
