Uhuru, Raila cowards to chicken out of debate – Aukot

Independent presidential candidate, Ekuru Aukot, has lashed out at President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) flag-bearer Raila Odinga for what he terms as “an act of cowardice” after teams of the two announced on Wednesday, July 5 that their candidates will not be taking part in the much awaited Presidential Debate.

Aukot now laments that other presidential candidates in the 2017 State House race are saddened by their move, insisting that the debate was a good platform for all of them to sell their policies to Kenyans.

“President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga have shown cowardice in the move to opt out. Let them come and argue with us on ideas,” said Aukot.

Speaking to the press after presidential candidates Aukot, Josphat Kavinya and Prof. Michael Wainaina convened on Wednesday, July 5, they accused the government of sabotaging their campaigns because they have not been accorded the security details that the constitution demands up to now.

“We want all presidential candidates to be accorded maximum security details. Inspector of Police, Joseph Boinnet should not be discriminative in dispatching security officers,” added Aukot.

The three candidates, However, called upon the media to be objective and fair in providing equal coverage for all the eight presidential candidates.
