Uhuru, Raila in ‘Thitima’ voter registration mobilisation anthem

President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader, Raila Odinga, have taken the voter registration mobilisation campaign a notch higher.

In a rare move, the three leaders have featured in a humourous campaign featuring the Thitima hit-makers, Kymo and Stigah of Samawati Band.

Thitima, is a Kikuyu dialect word that loosely translates to electricity.

In the short clips, the leaders are asking their supporters to register as voters so as to determine their futures through the ballot come August 8, 2017.

In the video, which uses coded language, President Kenyatta, Ruto and Odinga are warning their supporters against failing to register as voters, which will effectively give victory to leaders who have no agenda for them.

This comes even as both the Jubilee and opposition continue to transverse the country to urge Kenyans to register as voters ahead of the August 8 polls.

So far, the electoral body has registered 825,145 Kenyans over the last 7 days in the ongoing voter registration exercise which the commission says is 58% of voters out of a weekly target of 1.4 million voters.

According to the electoral body, Samburu recorded the lowest turnout standing at 18% contrary to Kajiado that exceeded target standing at 200% followed by Garissa at 128% and Kiambu at 105%.
