Uhuru revokes Bruce Odhiambo appointment as Youth Fund chair

President Uhuru Kenyatta has revoked the appointment of Bruce Odhiambo as the chairman of Youth Enterprise Development Fund board following allegations of corruption.

In a notice dated April 8, 2016, the president revoked a Gazette notice published on February 27, 2014 that confirmed the appointment of Mr Odhiambo.

The president also revoked the appointment of Sella Bongoko, Paul Gachura Ng’ang’a, Sabra Omar Hussein, Jane Mutinda, Mike Wamae, Clement Ayungo, Nicholas Mwaniki as members of the board.

Appearing before Parliament’s Public Investment Committee in March, Odhiambo admitted to acting unilaterally in the appointment of suspended Funds CEO Cynthia Namuye as the sole signatory to the account.

Namuye is accused of directing the withdrawal of Sh180 million from the Fund’s account to Quarandum Limited allegedly for consultancy services.

The services were however not delivered.

PIC chair Aldas MP Adan Keynan had last month called on President Kenyatta to suspend Bruce Odhiambo to allow investigations into corruption allegations at the fund to kick off.
