Uhuru speaks about Ferdinard Waititu’s ouster

President Uhuru Kenyatta during a rally at the Wanguru stadium in Kirinyaga appeared to reference Ferdinard Waititu’s Wednesday night ouster.

In his speech, the president warned Governors against dipping their hands in public coffers, saying they would be held accountable- and punished harshly.

“Muwe chonjo, mumesikia kile kimewafanyikia watu, muchunge mali ya uma, na MCA’s kama mko hapa, mkae chonjo ( be vigilant on public resources, you will be held accountable)”.

He appeared to be speaking about Waititu’s ouster by Kiambu county MCA’s over allegations of graft and abuse of office.

Uhuru reiterated that the spotlight on graft would continue to shine even on leaders on the lower levels who were handling County Development Funds (CDF).

He asked Members of the County Assembly to be vigilant and ready to deal with county bosses who would be caught misappropriating public funds.

In the same address, Uhuru asked residents of Kirinyaga to support him in his fight against corruption and the ongoing BBI popularisation rallies.

Waititu on Wednesday became the first governor to be impeached after the senate’s plenary sitting voted to uphold his ouster.

He was kicked out of office on three charges; Gross Violation of the Constitution & Public Finance Management Act, Crimes under the National Law and Gross Misconduct/Abuse of Office.

On Friday, his former deputy was sworn in as the new Governor Kiambu county and is expected to serve for the remainder of the term.
